We’ve made it quick and convenient for you to get signed up for our competition! Click away through our site and you will find links to paperwork, the Miss Kansas website and the Miss America website, and important checklists to help you start your journey to Miss America! Read on in the first of many posts that will give you the low-down on our organization. Come join us! You and your resume will be glad you did.

We are accepting TEEN contestants now!

Did you know that we are now having a TEEN local competition? We are excited for this opportunity for all of the teens in our area! Becoming a teen competitor and ultimately a title holder, allows you to compete at the state level and then on to the national level as Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen in Orlando, Florida. It also prepares you for the upper level, the Miss competition, that could take you to Atlantic City for the Miss America Competition! You must be between the ages of 13 and 17 (junior in high school) to compete at the Teen level. All other requirements are the same as the Miss level.

Say GOODBYE to the bikini! No more swimsuit competition!

No more swimsuits...

Hang on...that doesn't mean some sort of nude beach party. Trust me. It simply means that there is no longer an emphasis on how a woman appears in a swimsuit. It wasn't supposed to be about that anyway: it was supposed to showcase a woman's confidence (I mean who walks around in full makeup, full hair, jewelry, and heels in a swimsuit...let's get real.). It was also supposed to showcase how well a woman took care of herself through physical fitness and lifestyle choices (diet, etc.). Well, now we can stop explaining that our Lifestyle and Fitness portion of the competition wasn't for Sports Illustrated modeling contracts. It's gone entirely from the competition, replaced with enhanced onstage question and banter with the judges during the evening wear competition. Getting to know the real you and not a spray-tanned version of you is what these judges in the Miss America Program are interested in.

We are accepting Miss Contestants NOW along with Teen Contestants!! But where's the paperwork?

Because of all of the new changes at the National level, we are still, as of today, awaiting the all-important paperwork that will get you on that coveted "list." But I've got a secret: you CAN start the process! The local contract...excuse me..."memorandum of understanding"...is already available on our website. So is the checklist. You can begin your work on your platform...this is uber importante. Really, really. What are you passionate about? We posted a link on our Facebook page yesterday regarding writing and creating a platform. I encourage you to check it out.

Something else to start on? YOUR TALENT. You have one. Heck, you probably have several. Don't tell me you don't. Everyone does. Singing? Dancing? Public speaking/Acting? Painting? Juggling? Magic Act? Story-telling? Playing an instrument? Comedy? Truly, you can do anything as long as you're not launching a projectile or trying to do synchronized swimming on stage. But the key is to START NOW. New rules came out yesterday from Miss America for the judges and they announced that talend will be 50% of the total score. That's up from the 35% it used to be. OK. so it's worth more. So you practice more. In advance. That's a novel concept...practicing...early. WOW! *mindblown* Seriously, with these new rules out, you have the opportunity to get REEEEALY creative with your talent. Spend more time finding a fantastic costume. A seriously fantastic costume. You don't have to shop for the bikini anymore so focus all of your energy from that to your talent costume. You have 90 seconds to wow those judges...and nearly a year to perfect your talent before the state competition in Pratt, KS. You have 3 months to get something together for Miss Dodge City. Make it happen. I know you can.
